The Mostly Mondays: Loyola Music Faculty Research Series kicks off with Dr. Alice Clark, Professor of Music History, who will discuss the motets of Guillaume de Machaut. Event is free and open to the public.
The motets of Guillaume de Machaut, the most important poet and composer of fourteenth-century France, are unfamiliar to most modern ears. The same features that may make them seem strange, however, mark them as quintessential examples of medieval culture. This talk will examine Machaut's motets from several different perspectives and situate them within the musical world of his time.
