It's the most wonderful time of the year, no not Christmas but Festival Season!
Nothing beats Festival season in Spring in New Orleans. From Hogs for the Cause supporting and collecting funds for cancer research to two of the biggest festivals in the South taking place in April; French Quarter Fest and Jazz Festival, there is always somewhere to listen to some amazing, local music and enjoy our infamous Louisiana cuisine.
In this segment we would like to highlight faculty and staff who make our College special, add their expertise and
facilitate a creative community feeling.
CRESCENT CITY FILM FESTIVAL SHINES A LIGHT ON ALL VOICES
Excitement is abuzz in New Orleans with the upcoming fourth annual Crescent City Film Festival which hails talent from across the southern states, the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America. Participants are ready to showcase their long and short films, music videos and any visual content for the public eyes to enjoy. The festival, taking place April 21 - 23 2023, is more than a feast for the eyes, it is an intentional aim to create an inclusive and welcoming space for all creators in the film and visual community.
The Freret Street Festival occurred last weekend on Saturday March 25, 2023. It was the first time that Loyola students have been able to participate since 2019 due to the pandemic.
The Freret Street Festival featured 200 local vendors and had three stages of live music and spanned Freret between Napoleon and Valmont. The Soniat stage was managed by our very own Music Industry students with performances from current students and alumni all beginning at 11:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M.
The second Tiny Den Concert: Howl Entertainment ft. Aniya Teno and Sozi took place on March 9th, 2023. This concert was a free concert that featured student artist Aniya Teno and local New Orleans artist Sozi. Both artists performed about one to two individual songs, and also performed a song they collaborated on together right here in Loyola’s recording studios.

The 53rd Annual Jazz Festival returns after three years
Loyola's 53rd annual Jazz Festival took place over two days on campus under the direction of Professor Gordon Towell, Jazz Studies Coordinator. On March 3-4, 2023 after being forced on a three year break due to the pandemic the 53rd annual Loyola Jazz Festival resumed.
This year’s festival was a celebration of New Orleans Trumpet Masters-Wendell Brunious, Leroy Jones, and Jamil Sharif who had never shared a stage together despite being top musicians in their craft. They served as guest artists and clinicians for the 2023 festival.
