Loyola students majoring in Music Education had the opportunity to attend the 2023 Louisiana Music Educators Association (LMEA) Professional Development Conference in November in Baton Rouge.
The students, who are members of the Loyola chapter of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), participated in professional development sessions, observed all-state honors ensemble rehearsals, and networked with other university music education students and professional music teachers from across Louisiana during the statewide conference and collegiate summit, said Ed McClellan, Associate Professor and Coordinator of Music Education and the Rita O. Huntsinger Distinguished Professor of Music.
They also took advantage of a variety of sessions on topics such as Diversity-Equity-Inclusion, Advocacy, Technology, Beginning Your Career as a Music Teacher, The First Years as a Music Teacher, and Pedagogy in the Elementary, Instrumental, and Vocal Music Classroom, throughout the conference, McClellan said.
