Yulenda Timothy

I am from South Africa. Three things I love about New Orleans are: The food (Shrimp & grits to be exact) The people (Treme community) The culture (New Orleans Zulu tramps).

Some of my favrite songs are: Snoh Aalegra - Save Yourself : It's a great song that talks about knowing you deserve better and letting go of things that hold you back. Jhene Aiko's , Magic Hour,  because I really love how calming this song makes me, it's got a beautiful message. Lastly Wale - Dearly Beloved, this is a combination of two of my favourite artist, Wale & Jamie Foxx, so I loved it before I even heard it.

Percy Castillo

Hi there, my name is Percy Castillo! I'm a senior Public Relations major and English minor.

I am originally from San Bernardino, CA, but whenever I am not in New Orleans I stay in Gulfport, MS with my family.

I love New Orleans because it is so different from every other city I have visited. I love how passionate everyone who lives in New Orleans is. I love southern hospitality. And of course, I LOVE the food. New Orleans has some of the best food I have ever tasted. What I love about Loyola are the professors and staff. In my experience, they have all been so accepting of me and very understanding. They are all so passionate about helping you succeed. The only reason I am dreading graduation is having to leave some of my favorite people behind.

My three favorite songs at the moment would be:

The Fruits by Paris Paloma because it has such a dark witchy vibe that I love; once school starts it is spooky season

Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Tears for Fears because the vibe is *chefs kiss* — who doesn’t love a good 80s song?

Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene by Hozie, the entire season of fall belongs to Hozier, need I say more?

I'm from San Juan, Puerto Rico. I feel like what I absolutely love about New Orleans as well as Loyola is the feeling of home it gives me. There are so many different people from distinct places yet everywhere I go it feels like home. Three of my favorite songs are A) Pursuit of Happiness by Kid Cudi because it's a sad song disguised as a happy song and the artist is a genius B) Summer of '69 by Bryan Adams because it reminds me of my parents C) Radio by Lana del Rey because I used to be obsessed with it when it came out.

Mynthia Gonkpala

When 20 year-old singer-songwriter and performer Mynthia steps onto the stage, it becomes very apparent as to why he is known as “The Icon.”

An electrifying entertainer with a pen that is as honest as it is poetic, Mynthia is an artist that breathes new life into pop music. His debut single “AFRO” is a celebration of Black hair and culture while follow up single “Jungle” boasts a nod to his Liberian, West African roots.

With the drive and work ethic this young artist displays, the world is now put on notice that “The Icon” has arrived.
