The Scoop | April 2022

It is exciting to be restarting a college newsletter and returning to what feels almost like a normal semester (knock on wood). Seeing your faces and performances as well as knowing that you are engaging again with live audiences and in face-to-face classes has given me goosebumps. As we are all storytellers in this college, the newsletter is yet another way to continue talking about the amazing things the faculty, students, and staff in CMM do.

Hip Hop & R&B junior, Paige Stevenson, better known as NCognita, is taking the city by storm. The 20-year-old rapper and poet recently performed at BUKU and is celebrating her debut EP, “The Playbook,” during an on campus event from 2-6 pm on April 20th, 2022. The event will feature food, drinks and live music. “I feel really happy,” NCognita said. “I was able to be on a lineup with a lot of people I really respect.”

During a rehearsal of Loyola’s production of “Head Over Heels,” C. Patrick Gendusa said he got very emotional. “I told the students, I said ‘The three things I care most about in the world: the Go-Go's, ‘Head Over Heels,’ and you all, all combined in one thing in one night,” the lifelong The Go-Go’s fan and Chair of the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance said. Gendusa’s three favorite things came to a head on Thursday, March 31 when Loyola opened the New Orleans premiere of “Head Over Heels.

Loyola University has made strides in becoming a more diverse and inclusive community. One of the latest steps is being brought to the school through two of its own students. Madeline Talianich and Artie Bennet, Loyola students and Maroon newspaper editors, are starting a National Gay and Lesbian Journalist Association chapter at Loyola. Upon the chapter's complete implementation, Loyola will become one of 10 universities in the country to have a NGLJA chapter.

“I think my favorite memory of Mardi Gras this year was going to parades with my group of friends, some of whom were getting the full Mardi Gras experience for the first time. We really tried to go to as many parades as possible. I also caught my most favorite throw of all time this year, which was a felt crab hat.”
