In April, students from five New Orleans-area high schools participated in Ad Day, a day-long recruitment experience designed to expose them to careers in advertising.
Students from Booker T. Washington High School, Patrick F. Taylor High School, St. Augustine High School, and St. Mary’s Academy, all in New Orleans, and Vanderbilt Catholic High School in Houma, attended the event, which was themed “Creator Universe.”
The students participated in workshops taught by Loyola professors on Creating an Ad Campaign, How Brands Choose and Use Influencers, Getting Your Message Heard, and Choosing Music for an Ad. Groups of students then worked on mini-ad campaigns, which they later presented to judges to be named the Young Creator Ad Battle winner.
The event also featured a performance by artist and Loyola alum Rocky Leonard; a creator talk with Tamsy of TamLovesToEat, and a customized shirt press activation by The Inkwell Press.
Olivia Scott, a part-time instructor in the School of Communication and Design, developed the concept with Loyola students.
