Kayla Gagnet is a digital content strategist with a passion for local news and deep experience in media technology. She currently works as the digital news director for The Times-Picayune, The Advocate and The Acadiana Advocate, leading a team of digital journalists serving online audiences across south Louisiana. Previously, she worked at newspaper chain CNHI, where she developed digital strategies for community newspapers.

Kayla is a graduate of the Poynter Institute’s Leadership Academy for Women in Digital Media, and in 2018 she was named one of Editor & Publisher’s Top 25 under 35. She has presented at various media conferences, including the International News Media Association (INMA), the Georgia Student Press Association and the Hoosier State Press Association, among others.

In previous roles, Kayla worked as managing editor for WDSU.com in New Orleans, as a digital producer for WCNC.com in Charlotte, and as a newspaper reporter for The Daily Advertiser in Lafayette, La., where her work brought clean drinking water to a remote community and freed a man from jail.

Kayla has a Master of Arts in Journalism from the University of Missouri, and a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from Louisiana State University.
She lives in New Orleans with her partner, Anna, and her 10-year-old daughter.
