The Loyola University New Orleans Department of Theatre Arts & Dance presents a week-long festival featuring original work created by students.

Original work has been consistently mounted at Loyola, but this year the students are taking it one step further. The TAD Creation Community has come together to produce the inaugural New Works Festival, an event that will fill the campus with live theatre performances through the last week of the semester. Students have brought in pieces at all stages of the production process: some shows are seeing their first table reads, others are ready for full scale production. Because this is a festival centered around new work, the process is a vital element. New projects take time and care to develop, and the TAD Creation Community wants to support TAD students all the way through! Performances of individual student’s projects will take place nightly following the Musical Theater Showcases, culminating in the 24hr Play Project, in which new one act plays will be written, produced, and performed in one day. Following the final performance, TAD will host an end-of-the-year party and announce the 2022-23 mainstage season.

The TAD Creation Community is a new organization founded by Steven Pendleton, Bridget Boyle, Kevin Kelly, and Elexis Selmon with the mission of defining a team to facilitate student involvement and a strong community within the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance. The New Works Festival is the TADCC’s first production, and they hope to expand greatly in the coming years to foster not only student written work, but year-long opportunities for students to perform, design, and create to their fullest potential.

The New Works Festival will take place from May 2 to May 7, 2022. Performances are free start at 9pm Monday through Thursday, and 7pm Friday and Saturday in the Lower Depths and Marquette Theaters.
