Extraordinary Professor, Digital Filmmaking

Jonathan Vogl holds a Ph.D. in music composition and has over 20 years experience working in the professional film and television industry. A native of Southern California, Jon relocated to New Orleans in 2010 to found Apex Post Production, an audio and post-production company. Through Apex, he has cultivated relationships with film companies, sound stages, editors, producers, directors, location scouts, government agencies, and other industry professionals throughout Louisiana. While in Louisiana, Jon and Apex worked on the production of the Academy Award-winning feature film Twelve Years A Slave.

A twenty-year film industry veteran of 20th Century Fox studios in Los Angeles, Jon provided editing, mixing, and/or recording to countless major productions including Die Hard, Minority Report, 28 Days Later, X-Men, and Star Wars (episodes 1, 2, and 3). He holds extensive experience with live sound recording, international dubbing, and graphics supervision, as well as room acoustics and studio design. In addition to his work at Fox, Jon has worked for Sony Pictures, Todd-AO Studios, and Soundelux, among others.

Jon joined FAMIS in 2015 as an Extraordinary Professor of Filmmaking. Currently, he teaches courses in film business, digital editing, and audio for film and television productions. He also serves as Film Production Liaison for Loyola, and works with productions seeking to film on the university’s New Orleans campuses.

In His Own Words
