Coordinator, Jazz Studies

Saxophonist Gordon Towell earned his B.E. in music education from the University of Alberta, an M.M. in jazz studies from Indiana University, and a D.M.E. with a cognate in jazz studies from the University of Cincinnati's College Conservatory of Music. He has shared his expertise with students at the University of Cincinnati, Morehead State University, Indiana University, Keyano College, Grant MacEwan College, and numerous public schools. A recipient of Morehead State University’s 2001 Distinguished Creative Productions Award, Gordon is a Conn Selmer clinician and plays Selmer saxophones.

As Coordinator of Jazz Studies at Loyola University New Orleans, Gordon directs jazz bands and jazz combos, and teaches jazz history, arranging, composition, and improvisation. In addition to his work at the university, he also actively performs and accompanies various national and international artists. His saxophone performances have been featured on the albums Outlier, Sketch Pad, Ask Me Now, Blue Duck Suit, and Still Friends, which have been featured on NPR, CBC, and CKUA.
