About Raj Smoove

Proclaimed "the greatest DJ in the world" by rap superstar Lil Wayne, Raj Smoove is one of New Orleans' premier DJs and music producers. After teaching himself the art of spinning records at the age of thirteen, Raj broke onto the club and production scenes during his undergraduate years at Dillard University, quickly becoming an icon throughout the Gulf South. In 2000, he toured nationally with Cash Money Records as the DJ for the group's Cash Money/Ruff Ryder Tour, and went on to be featured three times on BET's Rap City: The Bassment. From 2001 to 2004, Raj Smoove served as the in-house producer/DJ for Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment, and helped produce several tracks for Wayne’s platinum album, The Carter. He also released a self-produced compilation album, Bayou Classic, that featured many of New Orleans’ hip-hop artists such as Mannie Fresh and Mia X. In 2006, Raj and Lil Wayne collaborated on two very successful releases: Lilweezyana and The Carter Files.

Currently, Smoove holds residencies at the House of Blues' Foundation Room in New Orlean, and is in regular rotation as a guest DJ at Harrah's Masquerade, the Metropolitan Night Club, and franchised events for the New Orleans Pelicans. He can be heard live every Saturday night on 98.5 WYLD for their Saturday Night Live mix, and is a staple at major city festivals including Essence Festival and The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Raj has covered recent high-profile events including the 2013 NBA All-Star Weekend, the National Black Journalists Association Convention, and the National Urban League Conference - where he shared an impromptu performance with Stevie Wonder.
