Each year the Art and Design departments invite majors and minors to participate in an educational trip focused on the arts. This year Diboll Gallery Director and Professor Karoline Schleh and Professor of Art History Ben Benus accompanied students on the spring trip to Washington, D.C.
Highlights of this year's trip included personal museum tours at the National Museum of the Women in the Arts, led by Associate Curator Virginia Treanor, a tour with Asma Naeem, Assistant Curator of Prints & Drawings at the National Portrait Gallery and a tour led by Wendy Grossman, Curatorial Associate at The Phillips Collection.
While touring the students visited exhibitions including "Man Ray - Human Equations: A Journey from Mathematics to Shakespeare," at The Phillips Collection; "Picturing Mary: Woman, Mother, Idea," at the National Museum for Women in the Arts; "Elaine de Kooning: Portraits," at the National Portrait Gallery; and "Days of Endless Time" -- an exhibition of video installations at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.
In addtion to museum tours the students also visited monuments and memorials on the National Mall, including Maya Lin's Vietnam Memorial.
