About Big Freedia
Freedia started her music career singing in a Baptist church choir, and later started her professional career in 1999. She is credited with helping to popularize the previously-underground version of New Orleans hip-hop called ‘bounce.’ She has been featured in The New York Times, and has performed on Last Call with Carson Daly and Jimmy Kimmel Live! A performance at Austin’s SXSW festival earned critical acclaim from Rolling Stone, and in 2011 Big Freedia was named Best Emerging Artist and Best Hip-Hop/Rap Artist by OffBeat Magazine.
Since 2013, Big Freedia has been the star of a reality show, Big Freedia: Queen of Bounce, which airs on the television channel Fuse.
