About Mike Reed
Drummer, composer, bandleader, and arts presenter Mike Reed has worked tirelessly as a fixture in the Chicago music and arts scene for the last two decades, both through his own music and through the live events he produces. Besides leading or co-leading several jazz and improvisational bands, Reed is the founding director of the renowned Pitchfork Music Festival, the programming chair of the Chicago Jazz Festival, and the owner/director of Constellation, an acclaimed performing arts venue. He also helped launch Chicago’s Downtown Sound music series, a free weekly concert program presented in Millennium Park that offers a mix of indie rock, world music, and contemporary soul.
In 2016, Mike assumed ownership of The Hungry Brain, a neighborhood tavern known for live creative music and socially-driven public programming.
